RMAVV Board Minutes
Phone Conference Meeting May 1, 2003

Attendees:  Mike Heck, Nancy Janes, John Mathewson and Bret Neal at office, 
Kathryn Stubler, Tim Merrick and Judy Mason on phone.  Guest Joan Mathewson
Not attending: Dave McLoughlin and Karen Loveland
Meeting called to order at 7:04 pm

Budget
Motion by Bret to approve the budget that was sent out with the agenda, Tim 
seconded, unanimous approval.  

Quality Improvement Program
Motion by Kathryn that up to $18,000 be approved for the Wine development
 board proposed quality improvement program contingent upon acceptance of 
details provided by RMAVV by May 30th and that a RMAVV board member be 
included as a voting member of the quality improvement committee.
John Mathewson  seconded, unanimous approval. 
Bret Neal volunteered to be the RMAVV quality improvement committee representative.
 Discussion included concerns that the testing requirements be looked at 
in greater detail, perhaps compare with what Canada does for their VQA 
requirements; what reports and feedback will be provided both to the winemaker 
and to RMAVV; what financial reports will be provided to RMAVV; what feedback/report 
will the winemakers provide to allow us to understand success of program?

An RMAVV quality committee was appointed to organize the RMAVV input to the 
wine board quality program proposal.   
Committee: John and Joan Mathewson, Tim Merrick Bret Neal, and Dave McLoughlin (if he agrees).
Inputs from other board members encouraged.

Official Winefest Name Discussion: Colorado Winefest or Colorado Mountain Winefest
Names were discussed and there was a preference for the Colorado Mountain Winefest 
name, but it was agreed that since we own both names we could also use the shorter 
one where space is an issue.

Weather Data
Horst would like to use the weather data from the RMAVV Specialty Crops weather 
stations for other crop studies.   Bret made a motion to allow use of weather 
data from Specialty Crops equipment for other research as long as it does not
 cost us anything or impact our research.  Mike seconded.  Unanimous approval

Mailing list policy
Motion by Judy to approve mailing list policy as follows; 

Techlist (both an e-mail (150) and a regular mail version (250).
-Contains members and former/potential members of RMAVV
-Used for distribution of industry-wide news and meeting notices only, 
including distribution of info. by complementary organizations for events 
of interest on a one-time use basis (such as the Western Horticultural Society meeting)

Advertising mailing list (1500)
-Generated from Winefest attendees and ticket sales
-Used for advertising RMAVV industry marketing events (Winefest)
-Also allowed for one-time use by other multi-winery (more than three) wine 
industry organization supporting events.
-Eventual possible use for industry sales and events newsletter and or one-time 
sales of list for other wine events.  We need to get an e-mail version of this started too.
